Notes:
The plant originated, like so many other plants of the family Liliaceae, in western Asia, the Middle East and middle Asia. Onion Oil is a brownish yellow, occasionally pale yellow mobile liquid with a very strong odor and distinct lachrymatory effect. Chemically, the oil consists of higher sulfides and traces of low boiling aliphatic aldehydes. The oil is distinguished by the complete absence of terpenes. dipropenyl sulfide & dipropenyl disulfide are constituents. tsca definition 2008: extractives and their physically modified derivatives. allium cepa, liliaceae.
