According to Arctander “The two trees are both botanically Citrus Reticulate varieties, originating in south China and other Fareastern areas. The mandarin arrived in Europe in 1805, and in the U.S.A. about 40 years later, In Europe, the fruit developed into the small, ellipsoidic Mandarin while in the U.S. A., the fruit remained quite similar to the Chinese original; however, it was re-named Tangerine in the United States.”

Tangerine Essential oil Brazil
Odor: pleasant, citrusy
Use: Tangerine is a citrus fruit botanically very close to the Mandarin orange. Both are from China, but the tangerine became more widespread in America, especially in the United States, where it is very popular. The tree has evergreen foliage of glossy green and fragrant white flowers reminiscent of orange blossoms. The fruit of the tangerine is a larger than that of the mandarin tree, and darker in color. The fruit is harvested before reaching complete maturity, between April and July. When the fruit is too ripe, the peel comes away too easily from the pulp and it is impossible to use cold-press machines for extraction. Tangerine essential oil has a pleasant, citrusy scent recalling that of bitter orange when peeled.

Use: Warm, citrus, sweet and tangy aroma. It is antiseptic, antispasmodic, sedative and stomachic. Could be phototoxic; care should be taken not to expose the skin to strong sunlight after treatment. Has an almost hypnotic effect on the mind. May be helpful with stress and tension due to its soothing action on the nervous system. Assists with gastric complaints, such as flatulence, diarrhea and constipation. Stimulates flow of bile which helps to digest fats. It is a popular addition to a massage oil during pregnancy, helping to reduce stretch marks, reducing fluid retention and stimulating circulation. Could help smooth out stretch marks, particularly when blended with lavender and neroli. Can be used in massage oils for acne. Blends well with basil, bergamot, chamomile, clary sage, frankincense, neroli, orange and rose.

Use: Ancient herbalists have long used Tangerine tree leaves in tea to help the body with digestive issues. Today, the fresh, peel-like, pleasant, sweet aroma of Tangerine oil is believed to aid in similar problems. Typically our customers buy this Tangerine oil in conjunction with the Tangerine 5X oil and Clementine oil for an added boost of citrus and depth.
