Colchicine
Odor: characteristic Use: Colchicine, a toxic plant-derived alkaloid extracted from plants of the genus Colchicum, inhibits microtubule polymerization (IC50 = 3.2 nM). |

Colchicine from Plants ≥98%
Odor: characteristic Use: Colchicine inhibits microtubule polymerization by binding to tubulin, one of the main constituents of microtubules. Availability of tubulin is essential to mitosis, and therefore colchicine effectively functions as a "mitotic poison" or spindle poison.
It is also used as an anti-inflammatory agent for long-term treatment of Behçet's disease.
The therapeutic value of colchicine against cancer is (as is typical with chemotherapy agents) limited by its toxicity against normal cells.
Colchicine is also used for constipation-predominant irritable bowel syndrome in women, and for treatment of severe or persistent aphthous stomatitis (canker sores).
Colchicine is used to prevent gout attacks (sudden, severe pain in one or more joints caused by abnormally high levels of a substance called uric acid in the blood) in adults, and to relieve the pain of gout attacks when they occur. Colchicine is in a class of medications called anti-gout agents. Colchicine is also used to treat familial Mediterranean fever (FMF; an inborn condition that causes episodes of fever, pain, and swelling of the stomach area, lungs, and joints) in adults and children 4 years of age and older. |
